Community choices tackle 'Holiday Hunger'

Over the summer I followed the progress of parents in Cranhill devising projects and pitching for funding to help tackle the problem of 'Holiday Hunger'. This is where kids who are reliant on school meals go without when the schools are closed for the holidays. A rather heart-breaking concept. Healthy food on it's own isn't much of a draw for the kids, so the community created projects built around activities which would attract young people, and by making participation and food free for all, it removed any stigmatizing means tests, or notion that the activities were just for the poor. What most impressed me about this project was the empathy and solidarity of the parents who pulled things together, I hope I've done it justice and that their story in their words can provide inspiration to other communities who face similar challenges and opportunities. Sincere thanks to all who organised, facilitated, participated in and otherwise contributed to the film.
